This really grabbed my attention, and I wasn't completely sure why until you mentioned Moebius!
Also I really liked how you used the old Macromedia Flash icon; it seems like a pretty accurate tribute to the earlier ages of the Portal.

I really like the concept of bivalve/shell knights!, it's interesting since his head is already a helmet, it would be great to see a comic or animation expanding this idea!

Cool results; I think the sketchy/hairy lines work pretty well since there's still enough difference of stroke and color to see the whole structure while adding some nice texture to it.
