I kept thinking about the possibilities when I was drawing it. The smugness of Squidward mixed with the mania of Ren, ultimately he'd be the most pissed off character ever.

it's pretty refreshing to see a recent interpretation of such a classic NG character.
This would be an awesome platformer-shooter game; there's so many possibilities; all of them involving fish of course.

Really cool stuff!
While I agree it may get monotonous when the parts begin to repeat, I definitively see a huge potential of variety before it gets old.
I also liked how you did the demonstration, it's a fun 'diagram' to watch (/comment from someone into graphic design).
It would be great to see more variations on this system (with different colors/'materials' as you mentioned) on a game!
